Michael Hitchcock

Chick Hitchcock

A TRIBUTE TO JOHN HITCHCOCK WHOM SADLY PASS OVER THE BAR RECENTLY FROM KEN ROLLINGS.

We are here today to celebrate the life of Michael John Hitchcock or Chick or Mike as we all knew him.

Chick had four main characters in his life Babs,Karen,Trevor and his dog Jasper this was his life and he lived it to the full.

I joined up the same year as Chick { 1954 } as very young boy’s of 14 to become Royal Marine Musicians full of enthusiasm, but Chick and three other bandboy’s decided they had had enough and made a decision to escape to France, they took a boat from Deal seafront and after many hours of rowing spied land and came ashore. Viva-la- France said one of the boys’s No Viva-La- Kingsdown said one of the locals, it’s a good job when Chick joined P&O they didn’t make him a Captain Dover-Kingsdown doesn’t have the same ring as Dover- Calais.

In the services our paths crossed many times but one that sticks in my mind was when I broke my ankle in Singapore and was in plaster of Paris up to my knee. It was Christmas 1958.

On Christmas day after a few drinks in HMS Terror canteen we made our way to the swimming pool Chick decided to put Newton’s Theory of gravitation in reverse not what goes up must come down But what goes down must come up so he and some other good mates threw me in the pool to see if I could swim with a plaster on my leg. As I struggled to surface I could feel a foot on my head

YES Chick was helping all he could.

Chick has had many voyages in his life but this is his biggest.

He was always a good mate to me, He always helped me when we served on Committee at the RMA and backed me in every way He was always there for me, and be assured Chick we will always be there for Babs & the Family
